- Abstract:
The article focuses on the management issue of employees' off-duty conduct and their right to privacy. Examples are given of employee behavior that can adversely affect the interests of the organization, its customers, and other employees. Examples of arbitration outcomes are also mentioned. The conditions where an employer can punish employees for off-duty conduct must include a connection between the offending behavior and the employee's job. Dismissing employees on the claim that the company's reputation was damaged is difficult to substantiate. Topics include Gould Inc., Potomac Electric Power Company, the Elyria, Ohio Board of Education, Parke-Davis, and the Internal Revenue Service.
