The article discusses a research paper which focuses on molecular evolution of Drosophila sex-lethal and related sex determining genes. It investigates change in coding sequences of sex determining genes associated with recruitment of Sex-lethal. Findings revealed that the recruitment of sister-or-Sex-lethal was associated with a number of adaptive amino acid substitutions and pattern of molecular evolution for Sex-lethal is not characteristic of a duplication followed by neo-functionalization.
