In this article the author discusses ways education leaders in schools can begin a conversation on grading reform. The author discusses the complexities associated with engaging teachers, parents, policymakers, and communities in discussion about grading reform, which is often an emotional topic. Guidance is presented on the best ways to begin conversations about reform in which the author highlights emphasis on principles upon which all stakeholders in the debate can agree. Topics include accurate risk comparisons, systems thinking, and collegial interactions with others.
