The article discusses the need to take an active role in research for social work. It thus presents a view on some observed facts regarding the current role of social workers, both in society in general and in the scientific community in particular. It proposes and discusses the need to generate new knowledge and new practices derived thereof taking research as a starting point. L'article pianteja la necessitat d'assumir de manera activa la funció de recerca des del treball social. Presenta un recorregut sobre alguns dels fets observats en relaáció amb el rol actual dels treballadors socials, ells i elles, dins la societat en general i la comunitat científica en particular. Proposa i argumenta la nécessitât de generar nous coneixements i noves pràctiques prenent la recerca com a punt de partida. Tanmateix, al llarg de l'article es van proposant recerques d'interès.
