    • Abstract:
The article seeks to examine how to better conceptualize the relationship between the histories of Jewish and Christian learning institutions in late antique Mesopotamia in order to learn more about each of them. The author describes the East Syrian material and examines the scholarship that uses the evidence from the Talmud to focus on rabbinic institutionalization. Discussed is research on the Sasanian Persian cultural context of the Babylonian Talmud. Article topics include the social history of the Babylonian Talmud and Syriacism.
