      This article reports on the June 2008 decision by the Spanish government to grant legal rights to great apes, which includes chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans. The Parliamentary resolution protects them from harm related to research and exploitation. Information is also provided on apes' abilities to use tools, communicate, form relationships, and feel pain.
