- Abstract:
The article discusses a study that showed the effects of the overfishing of sharks. According to marine biologist Charles Peterson of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, the declining number of large sharks has simultaneously increased the abundance of the species that the animals prey on, including little skates, catsharks and cownose rays. He adds that the preys destroy the sea grass habitat of other species like scallops, oysters, crabs and clams.
