The article reports that Chinese government has started to assert in the administration of Hong Kong, China. The Basic Law of Hong Kong has affirmed direct elections as its ultimate aim. Presently, the chief executive of the territory is elected by an electoral college of 800-members. Majority of the members of its Legislative Council are elected or appointed from business and social groups.
