The article discusses the development of a humanistic, competency based curriculum for pre-service elementary teachers in Minnesota. The faculty members committed in the planning of the proposed program made efforts to keep paced with the developments in elementary teacher training models. The planners concurred on the basic premises guiding them in setting the goals for the proposed program. One of the basic premises states that a pre-service teacher of elementary science should have experience in process skills and the methods of investigation before becoming proficient at teaching children the skills possessed.
