      The article focuses on the historical and geological significance of the continental divide in the region between South Dakota and Minnesota, particularly around the Traverse Gap and the Coteau des Prairies. It highlights the impact of glacial movements on the landscape, including the creation of Glacial Lake Agassiz and the formation of the divide which separates drainage basins flowing north to Hudson Bay from those flowing south to the Gulf of Mexico.
