    • Abstract:
This chapter presents information on cities and communities in Pakistan. The villages and cities of Pakistan illustrate the mixed character of the country as young republic and ancient territory. While the capital, Islamabad, is only a few decades old, Peshawar and other cities date back over 2,000 years. Because such a variety of landscapes, cultures, and historical events have shaped the country's communities, everyone's Pakistan is different. In spite of this diversity, these places also share a particularly Pakistani identity.
