    • Abstract:
A recent study conducted at Hospital Pablo Tobon Uribe in Medellin, Colombia aimed to describe the clinical and laboratory characteristics of pediatric patients with sepsis. The study included 186 patients between the ages of one month and 17 years. The most common sources of sepsis were respiratory disease, gastrointestinal infection, and catheter-related bacteremia. The study found that 60% of patients had at least one organ dysfunction, with respiratory dysfunction being the most frequent. The overall mortality rate was 12%, and it was higher in patients with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) or other organ dysfunctions. The study also highlighted that sepsis detection and timely administration of IV fluids and antibiotics were below recommended rates. [Extracted from the article]
