The article presents a Buddhist critique and reconceptualization of philosopher Karl Marx's concept of human desire. Topics discussed are structure of recognition and desire that reveals or reflects the nature of the ego, Marx's claims about desire-satisfaction as form of the human good, suffering as a result of desires not being satisfied and conditions for human desire-satisfaction, the Buddhist idea of a desiring self or ego as an illusion of self, and the possibility of self-contradiction
