    • Abstract:
Daniella Talmon-Heller examines in this work the "construction of sanctity" in medieval Islam, especially with regard to space and time. After all, many of the devotions associated with Rajab, such as the Rajab prayer, once it had spread to different regions, seem not to have been related to specific places, unless sacred space is extended to include regular mosques. She speculates that the usayni shrine may have been built on the remnants of the pre-Islamic Christian shrine and was embraced by the inhabitants of Ascalon due to the collective memory of the first shrine.
