- Abstract:
The article features three U.S. women who fought for racial equality in a country divided by racial politics. Frances A. Seward was the wife of Senator William Henry Seward who shared her husband's commitment to sweeping reforms for the rights of African Americans and women. Another important figure was homemaker Martha Coffin Wright who influenced Frances' hunger for reform with her stories about her sister, Lucretia Mott. Also included is the slave Harriet Tubman, who served as a catalyst for Frances' revolt against racial inequality.
