    • Abstract:
International Geological Congresses (IGCs) are held every four years since the year 1878. In 1960 to XXI IGC in Copenhagen Czechoslovak geologists informed participants about the compilation of a geological map of the entire territory of Czechoslovakia at scale 1 : 200 000 and the possibilities of organizing International Geological Congress in Czechoslovakia. In 1964 at the XXII IGC in Delhi the Czechoslovakia was unanimously approved for organizing of XXIII IGC. After initial problems, the government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic approved the organization of the congress. Czechoslovakia became one of the countries that organized the congress, and first among the so-called Eastern Block. The organisation was directed by the President of the Congress Dr. J. Svoboda and the General Secretary of the Congress Dr. A. Dudek and involved approximately 600 people who prepared accommodation and accompanying programs for about 4,000 participants from a total of 103 countries. The Congress was supposed be very significant in the history of Czechoslovak geology. Results of the rich longterm work of Czechoslovak geologists and their predecessors were planned to be present to the contemporary geological community of the world. However, the Prague Congress has entered history in completely different way. It was interrupted by the entry of invading troops of the five socialist states grouped in the WarsawPact into Czechoslovakia on August 21, 1968. The Congress was officially terminated untimely on August 23. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
    • Abstract:
Medzinárodné geologické kongresy (International Geological Congresses, IGC) sa uskutočňujú pravidelne každé štyri roky od r. 1878. V roku 1960 na XXI. IGC v Kodani československí geológovia informovali účastníkov o zostavovaní geologickej mapy celého územia ČSSR v M 1 : 200 000 a možnosti organizácie IGC v Československu. Prezentoval výsledky bohatej dlhoročnej práce československých geológov a ich predchodcov pred vtedajšou geologickou komunitou sveta. Pražský kongres však vstúpil do histórie úplne ináč. Bol prerušený vstupom inváznych vojsk piatich socialistických štátov zoskupených vo vojenskom pakte Varšavskej zmluve do ČSSR 21. augusta 1968. Kongres bol oficiálne predčasne ukončený 23. augusta.
