LIBRARIAN IV/REGIONAL BRANCH MANAGER – ST. ANDREWS REGIONAL:
  Full time position.  Management responsibility for a Regional Library and oversight of three (3) branches within the geographical cluster to foster cooperation, training, shared programming and staffing.  Must work with the Deputy Director, other Regional Branch Managers and Department Heads to help achieve the goals adopted by the Library Board of Trustees in the Strategic Plan.  Must be a library advocate devoted to providing excellent customer service to the community.  Must have the ability to exercise leadership and be able to motivate others to achieve these goals.  Must be able to train and supervise staff and possess the necessary tact to motivate staff to be the best they can be.  Ability to write concise reports, analyze community needs, the needs of the collection, the effectiveness of services and be able to communicate those needs to the appropriate departments and supervisors.  Must be flexible and able to assume any additional responsibilities to maintain branch operation.  Must have extensive knowledge of library principles, trends and administration; knowledge of Children’s, Circulation and Reference services.  Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite.  Experience with SIRSI ILS preferred.  Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.  Evening and weekend work included.  Other duties as assigned.  Must have the stamina for periods of standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, stooping and kneeling.  REQUIREMENTS:  ALA accredited Master of Library Science degree and four (4) years POST MLS professional library experience in a public library with two (2) of those years in a supervisory capacity.  Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification.  A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.  Hiring Salary Range:  $50,065.60 - $56,347.20 annually depending on qualifications.  Closing date:  Open until position is filled.

LIBRARIAN I – CHILDREN’S SERVICES – JOHN’S ISLAND REGIONAL BRANCH

P/T LIBRARY ASSISTANT V – SMALL BRANCH MANAGER – FOLLY BEACH
:  Part time position; twenty (20) hours per week.  Responsible for the operation of a small branch library; supervises staff; performs basic library functions under professional supervision.  Represents and promotes the library at community events and meetings.  Provides and maintains statistical records of the branch.  Plans and prepares displays, requests materials for patrons; helps patrons locate materials.  May plan and conduct library programs.  Handles money and prepares deposits; responsible for maintenance and repair of facility, equipment and grounds.  Must be detail oriented, customer focused and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite.  Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch operation.  Other duties as assigned.  Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.  Evening and weekend work included.  Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending and stooping.  May also be required to shelve library materials; lift book crates weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and/or push book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds.  REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s Degree; four (4) years of related library experience; high aptitude for library work and customer service, thorough understanding of basic aims and services of libraries; to meet people easily and participate in the activities of the community; strong communication skills to communicate effectively and pleasant with the general public and library staff; enjoys detailed work.  A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.  Hiring Salary Range:  $15.88 - $17.87 per hour depending on qualifications – NO INSURANCE BENEFITS.  Closing date:  Open until position is filled.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT IV – CIRCULATION SUPERVISOR – MAIN LIBRARY
Full time position.  Assists with overall management of the Circulation Services Department such as supervising  circulation support staff, training, scheduling, preparing statistical reports and overseeing workroom operations. Recommends policy and procedural changes to the Main Library Circulation Services Manager.  Resolves related policy issues and procedural problems. Interprets and communicates to public and staff regarding policies/procedures.  Assists with training in Circulation Services and the Integration Library System (ILS) for system-wide staff, including the material recovery program.  Assists with managing the collection floating procedures.  Reconciles and prepares cash registers and system-wide deposits.   Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite.  Must be able to troubleshoot and communicate maintenance needs for computers and library equipment.  Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain department operations.  Evening and weekend work included.  Other duties as assigned.  Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.  Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, stooping and pushing book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds.  REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree; three (3) years library or related experience OR two (2) years {sixty (60) credit hours) of college plus five (5) years library or experience in a related area.  High aptitude for library service; thorough understanding of basic aims and services of libraries; good judgment; accuracy, tact, flexibility; ability to get along well with others.  A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.  Hiring Salary Range:  $29,494.40 - $33,196.80 annually depending on qualifications.  Closing date:  Open until position is filled.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT II – INFORMATION/REFERENCE SERVICES – MAIN LIBRARY
:  Full time position.  Responsible for providing basic research and information services at the Reference Desk and in the Telephone Center.  This includes assistance with using computers for general use as well as assistance in using the library’s downloadable materials.  May, depending on need, spend time outside of Information Services providing public service desk coverage in the following areas of the Main Library: reference, young adult, children’s and circulation services as well as at other locations within the Charleston County Public Library system.  Must be computer literate in various computer software – Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technological advancements as they arise; knowledge of current technologies and trends preferred.  Must be detail oriented and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities and scheduling requirements as needed for maintaining departmental and branch operation to meet coverage needs of public service desks.  Other duties as assigned.  Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.  Evening and weekend work included.  Must be able to endure standing for periods of time.  Must have the stamina for walking, sitting, reaching, bending and stooping.  Must be able to push book carts weighing approximately fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds.  REQUIREMENTS:  High School graduate with one (1) to two (2) years of library or related experience.  Must be computer literate with strong technology skills, high aptitude for library work; ability to exercise good judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, adaptability, accuracy and tact; ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with library staff and customers.  A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.   Hiring Salary Range:  $23,504.00 - $26,457.60 annually depending on qualifications.  Closing date:  February 26, 2016.   

LIBRARY ASSISTANT II – CHILDREN’S SERVICES – MAIN LIBRARY
:  Full time position.  Performs library clerical functions; provides basic reference and reader’s advisory services.  Responsible for providing quality children’s programming, which includes, but is not limited to story times, puppet shows, storytelling, crafts, school age, afterschool and outreach.  Must be creative, artistic, enthusiastic and innovative.  Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Must have the ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and possess strong organizational skills with a high degree of attention to details.  Maintains the department’s early literacy interactive station and assigned displays.  Coordinates and distributes outgoing materials for the system, including summer reading supplies.  Must be adept at using Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technological advancements as they arise.  Must be able to cooperate as a team member with all library staff in performing any duty essential to the achievement of efficient library operations.  Must be flexible to assume all other duties as assigned.  Evening and weekend work included.  Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.  REQUIREMENTS:  High School graduate; one (1) to two (2) years library experience and proven ability to work with the public.  Knowledge of children’s literature  and materials; ability to work with children of varied backgrounds and ages.  Ability to get along with others; ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with the general public and library staff.  Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting.  Must be able to lift books, equipment and other materials weighing up to approximately fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds.  A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.  Hiring Salary Range:  $23,504.00 - $26,457.60 annually depending on qualifications.  Closing date:  Open until position is filled.

Part time entry level position; twenty (20) hours per week.  Duties include office support of the department, performing a variety of clerical tasks and routine library functions under professional supervision; participate in department projects.  Must be computer literate in various computer software – Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher.  Some time will be spent at the South Carolina Room Information Desk answering questions and assisting patrons in utilizing the resources of the collection.  Other duties as assigned.  Should be flexible to adjust to changing department needs.  Evening and weekend work included.  Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.  Must have the stamina for periods of sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending and stooping.  REQUIREMENTS:
