PROJECT MANAGER – MAIN LIBRARY: Charleston County (S.C.) Public Library is seeking a project manager to serve as a point person and coordinator for a major five year construction and renovation project that includes: building five (5) new libraries, two (2) new branches and three (3) replacements; renovating thirteen (13) existing branches; and relocating support and administrative staff into a different location.

The Project Manager works at the direction of the library’s Executive Director and serves as a liaison with library staff and Charleston County Government staff, plus contractors architects and various vendors for furniture, equipment, library materials and other supplies. Work includes developing timelines, checklists, preparing reports, coordinating meetings, giving presentations and serving as part of the library management team.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing large projects and working in a cross-functional or liaison role. They must be able to work autonomously, but also thrive on collaboration and maintain a “roll up your sleeves” attitude.

The job requires: excellent verbal and written communication skills to break down and explain complex topics in written and oral presentations; ability to prepare and maintain statistics and files related to the building projects; a working knowledge and understanding of construction processes for large scale projects; flexibility and skill to work at an extremely fast pace and deal with a rapidly changing environment; ability to work well and build excellent relationships with stakeholders and audiences involved in the project.

The project manager should maintain an eye for proficiency, scale and automation while also being willing to make suggestions that lead to excellent facilities, enhanced procedures and processes and a superior more efficient public library for county residents.

REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Project Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction, Building Management, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field and:

  • Seven - ten (7 - 10) years of experience in a related field and in program management or development or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. Experience in library operations preferred.

LIBRARIAN III/ASSISTANT REGIONAL BRANCH MANAGER AND REFERENCE SERVICES DEPARTMENT HEAD – HURD/ST. ANDREWS REGIONAL: Full time position. This position is that of Assistant Regional Branch Manager and Reference Services Department Head at the Regional Branch. As Assistant Branch Manager, you will be a member of the management team who contributes to our inviting and innovative link to the world. You will collaborate with coworkers to support the team process and have a creative approach to regional branch management. Duties include being the person in charge in the absence of the branch manager; prepares staff schedules; prepares and submits payroll time sheets; compiles statistical reports and documentation; assists branch manager with annual staff performance evaluations; enforces all library policies and procedures; and represents the library in community outreach events. As Reference Services Department Head, you will be the key model for outstanding customer service for your staff and the champion of building a positive team spirit. Responsible for all aspects of reference services, including adult programming, knowledge of bibliographic tools and sources; broad knowledge of library methods and procedures; ability to carry out assignments independently; participation in monthly system-wide Reference Managers meetings; and willingness to participate in community activities. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch operations. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend hours included. Must be detail oriented and a team player. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. LIBRARIAN II – CCPL TECH TEAM – ASSISTANT TECH TEAM MANAGER – MAIN LIBRARY: Full time position. Performs a variety of library functions under general supervision. Responsible for training staff and the general public in the use of technology, including software, online tools, and mobile devices, during classes, programs, and public computer sessions. Assistance may be provided in person, by phone, or by email. Duties include developing training materials, conducting staff and public training sessions at Main and the branches, publicizing the department’s programs in print and online, and assisting with scheduling and other managerial tasks. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work included. REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree with two (2) years of professional experience in a public library and excellent computer skills; or related graduate degree with equivalent professional experience in an instructional environment and excellent computer skills. Must be extremely knowledgeable of Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and comfortable with emerging technologies. Strong communication skills are essential. Ability to teach others, including patrons of different ages, and the capacity to exercise initiative, good judgment, accuracy, and tact when providing assistance. Ability to work as part of a team but also to carry out assignments independently. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed for departmental operation. LIBRARIAN I – CHILDREN’S SERVICES – JOHN’S ISLAND REGIONAL BRANCH: Full time entry level position. Responsible for the provision of juvenile services at a regional branch library. Basic knowledge of modern principles and practices of children’s services in public libraries; general knowledge of children’s materials. Ability to plan and conduct creative children’s programs, including storytime, storytelling and community outreach. Ability to create attractive displays. Skilled in the performance of library tasks. Ability to work well with people in groups and individual settings. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in various computer software – Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technological advancements as they arise. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch operations. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with the general public and library staff. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting. Must be able to lift books, AV equipment and program materials weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and push book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds. EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – ADMINISTRATION - MAIN LIBRARY: The Executive Administrative Assistant plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of tasks related to the library’s administrative functions. Under direct supervision, performs full administrative duties in support of the Administrative office by providing customer service, conducting research, preparing reports and handling information requests. Coordinates and arranges meetings, prepares agendas, reserves and prepares facilities and records and transcribes minutes of meetings. Prepares a variety of documents for and correspondence for the Executive Director, Deputy Director and Library Board of Trustees, including e-mail and faxes. REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree in secretarial science, public relations or a related field, plus considerable experience in a secretarial or administrative position. Ability to demonstrate excellent computer skills with Microsoft programs including, but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent communication skills required (written and verbal); attention to detail; management skills; strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and to use good judgement and discretion in carrying out duties and responsibilities. LIBRARY ASSISTANT III – YOUNG ADULT SERVICES – MAIN LIBRARY: Full time position. Assist Young Adult librarians in planning and conducting programs on a variety of subjects for students in grades 6 – 12. Assist YA Outreach Specialist in making presentations at schools and community events. Provide reader’s advisory and information services to customers of the Main Library’s Teen Lounge. Support the Young Adult department’s social media presence by contributing to blog, Twitter, Pinterest and other platforms. Implement procedures set by supervisory staff and prepare forms and reports. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work included. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in various computer software: Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technological advancements as they arise. LIBRARY ASSISTANT Ill- POPULAR MATERIALS- MAIN LIBRARY:
Full time position. Under supervision of the Popular Materials Manager, provide excellent customer service, reader's advisory services, media assistance, and audio visual support. Create new and provide existing programming to customers at the Main Library. Supervise two part-time page positions, and occasional volunteers. Manage floating media items and serve as branch's floating liaison. Oversee media collection maintenance and assist with development. Create pathfinders and media displays for patrons. LIBRARY ASSISTANT II – LIBRARY COLLECTIONS & TECHNICAL SERVICES (LCATS) – MAIN LIBRARY: Full time position. Scheduled hours of work are Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position entails working with the SIRSI library database to add and edit orders, edit title/item records, receive new library materials, and prepare materials for circulation. Required skills include a basic knowledge of library materials, practices and services; ability to follow written and oral instructions; excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; attention to detail and accuracy in repetitive work; proficiency with document organization and electronic records management; multitasking and prioritizing duties; flexibility and willingness to learn new tasks and computer skills as needed; initiative and resourcefulness; ability to get along well with others and communicate pleasantly and effectively. Other duties as assigned. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Must have stamina for periods of sitting, reaching, bending; must be able to lift book boxes/crates weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and/or push wheeled carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds. REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate with one (1) to two (2) years of library experience in the performance of computer-based tasks or related database maintenance experience. A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record. Hiring Salary Range: $23,504.00 - $26,457.60 annually depending on qualifications. P/T LIBRARY ASSISTANT I – CIRCULATION SERVICES – MAIN LIBRARY: Part time entry level position; twenty (20) hours per week. Perform routine library functions under professional supervision, including basic clerical and general office work. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office suite. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch operations. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend hours included. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, kneeling, and stooping.  Must be able to lift book crates weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and/or push book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds.  REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate; possess the ability to get along well with others and the ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with the general public and library staff. A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record. Hiring Salary Range: $10.09 - $11.36 per hour depending on qualifications – twenty (20) hours per week – NO INSURANCE BENEFITS. LIBRARY PAGES - (1) MT. PLEASANT VILLAGE: The duties of this position include but are not limited to shelving library materials; basic maintenance of the collection and premises. Other duties as assigned. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, bending, stooping and kneeling. Must be able to lift book crates weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and push book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds. Weekend work included. MINIMUM AGE IS SIXTEEN (16) YEARS OLD. Salary $7.55 per hour – fifteen (15) hours per week. Closing date: May 13, 2016.
