CCPL hosts eclipse events

Only Cooper River Memorial Library, Dorchester Road Regional Library and Otranto Road Regional Library will remain open during the eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21. All remaining branches will be closed that day, and any events scheduled at those locations have been cancelled. For complete details, click here

A total eclipse of the sun will be visible Aug. 21 in the Continental United States for the first time in almost 40 years. Eclipse-themed events at CCPL branches along with information on how to pick up free glasses are listed below by branch. 

*We encourage patrons to contact branches directly, since this information is subject to change based on the fluctuating supply of glasses.* 

*A select number of safety glasses will be distributed first come, first served (one pair per person) starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 21, while supplies last. Safety glasses will also be distributed to attendees of programs offered Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.* 

Eclipse Storytime and Craft
Monday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m.

Enjoy storytime, and make a craft.

DIY Eclipse Viewers
Monday, August 21 at 12 p.m.

Cooper River Memorial Library
Make an eclipse viewer with household items. Materials provided.

Total Eclipse Party
Monday, August 21 at 1 p.m.

Cooper River Memorial Library
Get free solar eclipse glasses, and join a viewing of the total eclipse. Enjoy a jump castle, popcorn, shaved ice and crafts to celebrate this rare and spectacular event.


Dorchester Road Regional Library
*Safety glasses will be distributed during the eclipse-related program scheduled Aug. 21 and to participants of the Solar Quiz, while supplies last.
Glasses will also be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis
on Monday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m., while supplies last (limit one per person).*

Solar Quiz (ages 11 and younger)

Complete a quiz, and receive a pair of solar eclipse glasses. Limit one per child.

Solar Eclipse Party
Monday, August 21 from 1-3 p.m.

View the eclipse outside or during a live streaming of the event inside the library. Solar eclipse glasses will be available while supplies last.
