HEAD OF COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNICAL SERVICES - MAIN LIBRARY:
The Charleston County Library, headquartered in the beautiful city of Charleston, South Carolina, is looking for a forward thinking, enthusiastic librarian to help our Collection Development and Technical Services Department, LCATS, to continue to excel in providing our customers, both internal and external, with a collection that fulfills the need of the community using modern library techniques and technologies that allows us to operate in the most efficient manner.

The LCATS Manager is part of the Administrative Unit and performs difficult and administrative work planning, selecting, evaluating and maintaining all library materials' collections. Under the supervision of the Executive Library Director, this position is responsible for system-wide selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing and display of all print, audio-visual and electronic materials. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA accredited Master of Library Science degree with six (6) years post master's professional public library experience with three (3) years of management/administrative experience. Well developed communication skills; ability to plan and coordinate the work of others. Must have the stamina for periods of sitting, standing and walking. Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification; a valid South Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record. Hiring Salary Range: $56,064.50 - $76,247.72 annually depending on qualifications. Closing date: Open until position is filled.

LIBRARIAN III/LARGE BRANCH MANAGER - COOPER RIVER MEMORIAL LIBRARY: Full time position. Under the supervision of the Otranto Road Regional Branch Manager, responsibility for the overall operation of a large branch; supervisory responsibilities for staff. Knowledge of modern principles and practices of library services and administration, good knowledge of library materials. Initiates, plans coordinates and delivers programs at the branch and in the community. Ability to exercise leadership and motivate others, to plan and coordinate the work of others, to write concise reports, to analyze community and user needs; to access effectiveness of collection and services. Must have the ability to train and supervise staff; possess initiative and tact; participate on system-wide committees. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities to maintain branch operations in a cluster team environment. Must be computer literate with strong computer skills, particularly using Microsoft Suite, with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technological advancements as they arise. Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work included. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, stooping and kneeling. REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree with three (3) years post master's professional experience with progressively more responsible experience in a public library; creative approach to branch management with well-developed communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with the general public and staff; detail oriented and a team player. LIBRARIAN II - ASSISTANT TLC MANAGER - TECHNOLOGY LEARNING CENTER - MAIN LIBRARY: Full time position. Under the supervision of the Technology Learning Center Manager, assists in the supervision and management of the Technology Learning Center. Responsible for training staff and the general public in the use of technology, including software, online tools and mobile devices during class, programs and public computer sessions. Assistance may be provided in person, by phone or by email. Duties include developing training materials, conducting staff and public training sessions at Main and the branches, publicizing the department's programs in print and online, and assisting with scheduling and other managerial tasks. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work included. REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree preferred with two (2) years of professional experience in a public library and excellent computer skills, or related graduate degree with equivalent professional experience in an instructional environment and excellent computer skills. Must be extremely knowledgeable of Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and comfortable with emerging technologies. Strong communication skills are essential. Ability to teach others, including patrons of different ages, and the capacity to exercise initiative, good judgment, accuracy and tact when providing assistance. Ability to work as part of a team but also to carry out assignments independently. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed for departmental operation. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending and stooping. Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification. LIBRARIAN I/POPULAR MATERIALS - ASSISTANT DEPARTMENT MANAGER - MAIN LIBRARY: Full time position. Performs a variety of library functions under general supervision. Assists with scheduling and other managerial tasks. Provides excellent customer service, reader's advisory services, media assistance and audio visual support. Coordinates and provides departmental outreach activities to local organizations and shelters. Creates and implements public programs and assists with system-wide programming, including the adult summer reading program. Assists with collection maintenance and development. Creates booklists and displays for customers. Supervises one part time page position. Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: ALA accredited Master of Library Science degree; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, basic computer troubleshooting and comfortable with emerging technologies; stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching and bending; ability to maneuver loaded book carts. Nights and weekend work required. Supervisory experience preferred. Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification. A valid South Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record. Hiring Salary Range: $36,988.12 - $50,303.85 annually depending on qualifications. Closing date: Open until position is filled.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT I - CIRCULATION SERVICES - ST. ANDREWS REGIONAL LIBRARY: Full time entry level position. Perform routine library functions under professional supervision. Prior library experience helpful but not necessary. Basic clerical and general office work. Must be computer literate in various computer software - Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher a plus. Must be detailed oriented and flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch/ departmental operations. Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus. May also be required to shelve library materials, must be able to lift book crates weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and/or push book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, kneeling and stooping. Evening and weekend work included. Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate; possess the ability to get along well with others and the ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with the general public and library staff. A valid South Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record. Hiring Salary Range: $20,988.07 - $28,543.77 annually depending on qualifications. Closing date: November 7, 2014.

LIBRARY PAGES - (1) COOPER RIVER MEMORIAL LIBRARY; (1) JAMES ISLAND LIBRARY: The duties of these positions include but are not limited to shelving library materials; basic maintenance of the collection and premises. Other duties as assigned. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, bending, stooping and kneeling. Must be able to lift book crates weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and push book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds. Weekend work included. MINIMUM AGE IS SIXTEEN (16) YEARS OLD. Salary: $7.55 per hour - fifteen (15) hours per week. Closing date: November 7, 2014.
